Proposing an Exhibition at the Boston Athenæum
Exhibitions at the Boston Athenæum are scheduled at least three years in advance. Unsolicited exhibition proposals or solo exhibitions of the work of living artists are generally not considered. Only proposals from professional curators or museum staff are considered. All proposals must be made in writing and must include the following:
- a detailed description of the exhibition including an explanation of why it would be appropriate for the Boston Athenæum
- a partial checklist of objects to be included in the exhibition
- sample images of objects to be included in the exhibition
- approximate square footage needed for the exhibition
- planning schedule
- a draft budget
- a list of funding prospects
