Boston Athenæum

Boston African Americans, 1820-1863
The Boston Athenæum has assembled a list of names, addresses and occupations for approximately 5800 African-Americans who lived in Boston during the period from 1820 to 1863, the time at which the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Boston Athenæum Digital Collections
The online collections of the Boston Athenæum consist of digital surrogates of rare books, archival documents, photographs, maps, and works of art on paper.
Boston Athenæum Theater Collection
A guide to the theater programs and playbill collection at the Boston Athenæum. More than 90% of the material represented in the database consists of playbills or portions of playbills from about 45 Boston theaters. The bulk of the playbill collection dates from circa 1860 to 1900.

Collections from: the State Library, Boston Athenæum, Boston Public Library, Boston National Historical Park, Charlestown Navy Yard, Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Historical Society, and Historic New England.
Boston African Americana Collection 
Visual and textual materials held by the Boston Athenæum, the Bostonian Society, Historic New England, and the Massachusetts Historical Society. Spanning the years 1770 to 1950 with the bulk being 1865.
