Take a Tour

Experience the wonder of 10½ Beacon Street, with a variety of options designed to fit you and your group perfectly.

Art & Architecture Tours

Perfect for groups of seven or fewer. Join us for a one-hour docent-led tour highlighting the history of the Athenaeum, our iconic building, and its collections. Visit our ticketing website to view upcoming tours, check ticket prices, and find reservation details for individuals and small groups (please book a private group tour for parties larger than seven people). Members may book free tickets for themselves and up to three guests.

Private Group Tours

Docent-led tours are available for groups of eight to 20 people. Private tours must be requested at least three weeks in advance and cost $25 per person. Groups of fewer than eight people are invited to take an Art & Architecture Tour.

Academic Visits

Academic visits are available to K-12, higher education, and lifelong learning groups. Academic tours are limited to 30 students. Visits requiring the use of our study center have a limit of 20 students (larger classes may be split into two groups). We require at least three weeks’ notice to book. If your institution is not able to support our standard fees, please contact us at education@bostonathenaeum.org.

Academic visits may include:

  • An hour-long, docent-led tour of the Athenaeum’s historic landmark building, at the cost of $5 per student (up to two educators, staff, or chaperones are included for all academic groups, and all aides for students with special needs are free).
  • A presentation of materials from our special collections, at the cost $150 for up to 20 students. We are happy to work with you to meet your group’s learning goals. Our special collections support learning across all fields of study, with particular strengths in Boston history, New England history, English and American literature, art, and art history.
