View rare materials and inquire about fine art

The curators who care for the Boston Athenaeum’s collection of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts will answer basic questions about objects in the institution’s art collection. However, the staff does not perform biographical research on artists or conduct research on objects that are not in the Athenaeum’s collection.

Most documentation and research files concerning objects in the collection are available for inspection by serious researchers, graduate students, curators, scholars, and members of the Athenaeum by appointment only.
