Community Guidelines

The Boston Athenæum is committed to providing an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. All members, guests, visitors, and service providers are expected to

  • Conduct themselves in a civil and courteous manner and in accordance with any rules or protocols adopted by the Boston Athenæum from time to time.
  • Respect the property, collections, assets, and equipment of the Boston Athenæum and of other individuals in the building.
  • Consume alcohol responsibly and only in association with Boston Athenæum social events.
  • Refrain from any behavior that constitutes harassment of any kind, including without limitations harassment based on gender, race, disability, or sexual orientation.

The privilege of using the Boston Athenæum and the enjoyment of its services may be suspended or terminated following a determination by the Boston Athenæum that its rules have been violated. The Boston Athenæum may in its discretion notify any person in writing of its determination to suspend or terminate such person’s privileges or otherwise to limit or prevent such person’s use of or access to Boston Athenæum facilities or services
