Your support ensures that the Athenaeum can be at the forefront of dynamic programming and the collecting and preserving historic works. Equally as important, your gifts ensure the community can continue to go and thrive. Share what matters.

One time or recurring gifts can be made by:

  • Electronic funds transfer coordinated by contacting the Development Office.
  • Check made out to the Boston Athenaeum and mailed to the address below. Postage-paid envelopes are available upon request.

Gifts of appreciated securities, stocks, and bonds can be made through our representatives at Catalyst Financial Partners LLC. Please notify our contact, listed below, of the type and number of stock or securities that you wish to give, as well as how the funds should be directed.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA)

Individuals set up individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) to provide them with income during retirement. To learn more about the benefits of using your IRA to contribute to the Athenaeum, please consult your financial advisor.

Employer Matching Gifts

Many employers will double your contributions to the Athenaeum by matching dollar for dollar. To set up a matching gift, please contact your company’s Personnel, Human Resources, or Community Relations Department. If you have already sent in your gift, you may submit your matching gift form at any time during the fiscal year.

Collections gifts

Gifts of personal property, including works of art, rare books, and other items of demonstrable value, may be accepted. Please contact us to be sure we can direct you to the most appropriate member of our Special Collections staff.

Estate Gifts

Planned gifts, such as bequests, charitable gift annuities, and charitable trusts are excellent ways to ensure your generosity has an impact for years to come. To learn more about including the Athenaeum in your financial and estate plans, please visit our planned giving page

Memorial and Tribute Gifts

Memorial and tribute gifts are powerful ways to honor or remember someone special. To make a memorial or tribute gift, attach a note with their name or follow the instructions on our online giving form.

To direct family and friends to make gifts in memory of a loved one who has recently passed, we suggest including the following language in an obituary or other tribute:
