Slow Art Day 2025

Celebrating Allan Rohan Crite
Saturday, April 5

Slow Art Day is an annual celebration of the joy of looking at art. Visit anytime during open hours (9 am – 5 pm) on Saturday, April 5 to explore our first floor on your own or register for one of the following guided viewing sessions:

This year, we honor Boston artists Allan Rohan Crite (1910 – 2007) and Polly Thayer Starr (1904 – 2006). These thirty-minute guided sessions will include 10 minutes for looking slowly and closely at a selected piece of art on the Athenaeum’s first floor. You’ll then share your thoughts and reflections followed by a discussion with one of our docents. If you explore on your own, you can also select your own piece of art and use our written guiding questions to have your own mini slow art session with a friend!
